iPhone App Review: Dungeon Hunter

April 28, 2010 Leave a comment

Yes, it is kind of a bland name. And if it was on any other platform, this game probably would just fade into the background. But on the iPhone, Dungeon Hunter stands out from the pack. It isn’t a puzzle game, it doesn’t have bright colors or look like a kids cartoon. It’s a game about fighting monsters, in the same vein of computer games like Diablo or Titan’s Quest. Read more…

A recent study out of Dartmouth Medical School finds a possible link between underage drinking and watching R-Rated movies.

The study, which sampled 3,600 New England Middle School students and followed up on them two years later, looked at whether or not those who watched R-rated movies when they were younger were more likely to drink, smoke, enagage in promiscuous sex, or other risky behaviors when they were older. Statesman Budget Cuts

The future of the Statesman is no longer black and white.

According to an article in the New York Times, 2009 was the worst year for the newspaper business in decades. Advertising revenue dropped over 27 percent. Papers such as the Rocky Mountain News were forced to close.  The Christian Science Monitor and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer became online only publications.

Last year was no different for the Statesman. In 2009 its ad revenue dropped nearly 50 percent. According to April Warren, the paper shortened issues, cut back on color and reduced circulation by 1,000. But like many newspapers, the Statesman is still losing money.

“The Statesman is struggling with the same problem every former print media has-from the New York Times to the New Yorker,” said Charles Haddad, a journalism professor at Stony Brook University. Read more…

Review: Cypress Hill – Rise Up

When I heard this album I couldn’t believe my ears. Never in all my years of listening to Cypress Hill’s music, have I ever heard such a rock influenced rap album.

Rise Up, the bands first studio album in six years, hit stores last Tuesday. Subsequently the album dropped on the same day as a very momentous green holiday, and I don’t mean Earth Day.

In addition to being released on a holiday that Cypress Hill has shown frequent passion for, the album features quick little clips from old-timers Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong.

Some other guest artists on the album include Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine, hip-hop artists Evidence and the Alchemist, Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park, Daron Malakian from System of a Down, Everlast, Pitbull and Marc Anthony.

The first single from the album is called “Rise Up” featuring guitarist Tom Morello. In a song that sounds like a B-Side for Rage, Cypress Hill really manages to keep the flow.

The home team won, 2-1, on a late penalty by New York Red Bulls captain Juan Pablo Angel.

But no one in the group of 18, parked in section 102 right next to the loudest supporters in the ground, would have much cared if the score was opposite, though they cheered long and hard as Angel’s kick slammed into the back of the net.

For them, the Stony Brook University Soccer Club, the game was about the experience.

For some, like Seongkon Kang, a 20-year-old student, the game was their first ever professional soccer game.  Some couldn’t name a single Red Bulls player.

Others, like James Peterson, a 22-year-old junior at Stony Brook, already owned a Red Bulls jersey and had been following the team for years.

Everyone was there to celebrate making it through another week by wasting a Saturday on the world’s favorite sport: soccer. Read more…

Chili Wants A Little To Much

Chili

“He cant drink, can’t smoke, has to love god, has to be caring, sensitive, has to be super fine and he can’t eat pork.” Upon hearing this I directed my attention to the television. All I could think was, ‘ oh boy, what delusional women made her way on TV this time.”  Once the commercial ended I proceeded to laugh. Loudly.
