A recent study out of Dartmouth Medical School finds a possible link between underage drinking and watching R-Rated movies.
The study, which sampled 3,600 New England Middle School students and followed up on them two years later, looked at whether or not those who watched R-rated movies when they were younger were more likely to drink, smoke, enagage in promiscuous sex, or other risky behaviors when they were older. The countdown is on! We are exactly three weeks away from the end of the semester and summer, if you don’t count finals week (which I don’t because as a commuter, I’m on campus for the total six hours max that I actually have finals going on).
Being that the semester has now officially reached the ending point, we have also reached what I usually like to call ?!(@$!& crunch time. If you’re like me, you have at least one major assignment due in each class really soon. If you’re really like me, you even have 2 major things due in some classes. Read more…
Dancing With the Stars had its big 10th season premiere tonight, and the show decided to usher in a milestone season with some milestone changes and some surprisingly good performances.
I previously blogged about the changes in co-host, number of celebrities, and pros who confirmed they would or would not be performing. Other changes this season? The “red room,” where celebrities previously gathered before and after performances is gone-in its place is a new glass balcony across from the stage and directly in the audience. The balcony allows the fellow celebrities to also watch the competition while they perform-talk about nerve-wracking.
The show has also changed the screen graphics for the intro and when scores are announced.
Brooke Burke, the season 7 winner is the new co-host, and does a good job, but speaks at a much lower volume than Samantha Harris ever did. I had to turn up the volume on my TV twice in order to hear her.
This video became a youtube sensation last fall. The video shows grad students Kevin Heinz and Jill Peterson, both 28, dancing down the aisle for their wedding. The two choreographed a routine with their wedding party to Chris Brown’s “Forever,” and after it was posted online, it became a major sensation, and the two were brought on for interviews with Meredith Viera and Matt Lauer on the Today Show. To date it has received 44,346,707 views.
The video is a straight news story that talks about the new Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical that opened in London called “Love never Dies”. The Musical, which is a sequel to his smash hit “Phantom of the Opera,” was loved by fans but given some harsher reviews from critics.
MAN ON THE STREET: Dr. Drew: Man on the street interviews about orgasms
To find a man on the street interview I just did a random search on google…and came across this. It’s from 2006 so it’s obviously out of date, but it’s all man on the street interviews with Dr. Drew Pinsky, and he is asking them about orgasms, how they feel, and what they look like when they’re having one. Actually kind of funny to watch-especially when some of the people turned the question back on Dr. Drew-and he got all embarassed. And the faces are funny too.
So the movie awards season has officially ended, and after a little touch-and-go on whether or not I would get to see the biggest night of the movie year thanks to my local cable provider, (as a side note, I was making plans to go all Carrie like on James Dolan), I did get to see the awards ceremony. (On a second side note, once I flipped the channel back to ABC and saw it was on, I tossed my other plans in the garbage and promptly began to dance a jig-yes, a jig-in my den).
Let’s face it, as college students we are usually broke about 99% of the time, and being broke usually results in us limiting going out and having fun the way we’re supposed to. I at least was always told to enjoy the college years and experience because they’re the best years of your life…but when your wallet is so empty that not even those hypothetical moths fly out of it, it’s hard to enjoy.
That’s why I want to let you all in on a little secret. There are great ways to have a full day of fun without a hefty price tag. A great place to spend a whole day without spending too much of the little money actually in your wallet is to take a drive down to Port Jefferson-you’d be surprised how much you could do…and how much you could afford it. So I don’t watch a lot of Reality TV. I’ve never really enjoyed it too much, and I have found the ideas they come up with and pitch to the American public assinine (Jersey Shore anyone?) But I will admit to religiously watching two shows-The Amazing Race and Dancing with the Stars. I love seeing people compete around the world, and I love watching celebrities learn to do something new. Read more…
Yes I know Valentine’s Day came out a week ago, so technically a review of it now seems ridiculous. But the movie I really wanted to see, “The Good Guy,” was only playing at three movie theaters…and they were all in Manhattan. And I sadly can’t see spending $21.50 round trip on a train ticket to the city…just to go to a movie theater…and turn right back around and go home. Since the only other release this weekend was Shutter Island, and I really had no desire at all to see it, I decided to suck it up and go see the movie that had an abysmal 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was panned by every professional critic in the business. I figured at the very least, if the movie sucked, I could give it an absolutely horrific review, which I get some weird kick out of.
And while cinematically the movie is terrible with a little too under-developed a plot line and practically no connection between characters (and not enough screen time for all of them-some are probably in the movie for a total of 10 minutes)…underneath is a sweet movie that is like a box of chocolates on the holiday it is named after: On the outside it look so attractive and good. But once you start picking it apart, the insides aren’t always as appetizing.
